Glodon Bridges China–Malaysia Construction Innovation Through CIDB Technology Study Visit

From 19 to 22 October 2026, Glodon facilitated a four-day technology study visit to China for a delegation comprising representatives from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and CIDB Holdings, covering Shanghai, Xuzhou, Beijing and Tianjin.

The programme brought together government representatives, industry stakeholders and educational institutions to explore how digital technologies, smart construction practices and industry-oriented education can support the transformation of Malaysia's construction sector.

More than a series of technical visits, the exchange highlighted Glodon's role in connecting industry needs with technological innovation and talent development, creating opportunities for cross-border knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Connecting Digital Innovation with Real-World Construction Applications

Digital transformation goes beyond adopting new technologies. It requires translating innovation into practical solutions that address industry challenges, improve efficiency and support safer construction practices.

During a visit to XCMG in Xuzhou, the CIDB delegation explored intelligent tower crane technologies and their applications in modern construction.

Through technical discussions and a production workshop visit, delegates gained insights into intelligent equipment control, system integration, manufacturing processes and safety-oriented design. The exchange also provided an opportunity to discuss how digital technologies and intelligent machinery can contribute to construction productivity, operational safety and equipment management.

At Glodon's Beijing headquarters, the delegation explored digital construction solutions through presentations and exchanges featuring BIMFACE and Gsite. The discussions highlighted how connected digital platforms can support BIM visualisation, project information management, construction collaboration and more efficient project delivery.

The programme also included an exchange with Glodon's Education Unit, focusing on digital construction education, professional training and industry capability development.

Together, these engagements offered a broader perspective on how digital platforms, intelligent equipment and professional expertise can support construction digitalisation across the project lifecycle.

Bridging Industry and Education for Future-Ready Talent

As the construction industry adopts increasingly advanced technologies, developing a digitally skilled workforce is essential to sustaining long-term transformation.

Recognising the importance of industry–academia collaboration, Glodon facilitated visits to Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical University and Tianjin Ren'ai College, connecting the CIDB delegation with educational institutions advancing practical digital construction learning.

At Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical University, the exchange introduced smart construction training environments incorporating Building Information Modelling (BIM), digital twin technology, construction robotics and AI-enabled applications. These facilities demonstrate how emerging technologies can be integrated into hands-on education to strengthen students' technical and practical capabilities.
